We went to the Grand Canyon while in Arizona. I am SO glad we went 8 hours out of our way to do so. It was awesome. We all loved it.
I was in the car feeding Rachel for this view. We had just arrived at the South Rim and this was our first glimpse of the canyon. Steven pulled over along with all the other cars in a no parking zone (tisk, tisk) and took the kids out. Sarah's response to seeing the Grand Canyon was "WOW" and then she cried for the remainder of the day.
We went on a Rim Walk with a ranger. He chose to speak on the Native Americans. It was interesting learning about the things they used in nature for survival.
The canyon looks fake, even in person.
Listening to the ranger. Jacob was interested.
The ranger was talking about the trees and what the different needles were used for, not that I remember.
Working on their Junior Ranger packets that we picked up at a visitor center.
We to some Native American ruins after lunch. The boys had finished their workbooks and had to show it to a ranger. She then swore them in as Junior Rangers. Michael loved it! And wore his badge proudly. Jacob is now at the age where things are embarrassing :( and didn't want to have his badge on in public, though secretly I thing he thought it was awesome...right?
See Michael looking down at his badge. Cute kid.
We loved Lipan Point. It was beautiful!!!! I wasn't lying when I said that Sarah cried the rest of the time we were there. We just wanted someone to take our picture so we could get her out of there! I was feeling bad for all the other tourist trying to enjoy this gorgeous view and having to listen to some tired, sick, crying kid. Oh and Rachel was crying too in this picture.
I took the girls to the car and fed Rachel and had Sarah buckled in (which she was happy with) while Steven stayed out with the boys enjoying the scenery. When they finished I got a turn. I really liked being by myself. Even though there was a railing, I was nervous with my kids, so it was nice to have them all safely tucked in the car waiting for me.
Having the binoculars was fun.
Petrified wood. Holbrook, Arizona
The end of a great outing.
