Forgetting What It's Like To Be A Kid!!!

Home schooling has it's pluses, but along with those there are the negatives. One of the negagives is we get in ruts. Our reoccurring rut is that our child becomes grouchy and ornery. As parents, we at times endure this relatively well, at other times we are not so successful. My question has been why does this happen? I think, we were doing SO WELL, what went wrong?

This last week has been such a struggle. My patience has been tried and tried and tried........and tried! As I have reviewed lately, life has not been fun. Our days; choirs, school work, play, clean up and I have my list of things to do. Even getting a tour of the ins and outs of our library and going on a nature walk have not been very fulfilling.

Well today, I realized something, it's called spontaneous delight. I took the boys outside on the porch, laid down a large sheet of paper, poured paint on a plastic place mat and had the boys toe paint. They loved it!!! To wash off their messy feet, we stomped through the puddles in the rain. We got so wet and had a lot of fun together. I really need to play with my children if I am going to survive. They were just bursting with laughter as we splashed each other.

Oh, I understand the rut. I suppose as you discovered, it means it's time for something different to spice it up. I can just picture the scene of the boys toe painting and stomping in the puddles-while you do the same and are laughing. Yes, playing more often is a good thing.

I hear you Wendy. I had to apologize to my kids last night for blowing up over stupid little nothings. But taking some time out for them is a great idea. Hang in there, you can do it!
