Home school

We are taking summer off so I can prepare for next year. I have a good homeschooling friend who is being my mentor in the world of home school whether she's liking it or not. I am extremely grateful to her!!!! THANK YOU!! When I begun this whole insanity I said to myself and probably out loud that I needed someone to show me how homeschooling works. Home schooling is very unique to each family and no matter how many mom's you talk to, you can still feel lost, because none of it matches what what works for your family and individual child or you're just slow (me).

These first years have been great as I have be learning how I want to home school. My goal in the beginning was to develop a love for learning (Jacob's kindergarten year was intense and he hated school work-in kindergarten!! Not a good foundation.), to allow my kids to be kids, spend time in nature, and to teach them principles of the gospel. One thing I have learned is that learning comes naturally we just have to provide opportunity. Also that we need to be patient and let these little kiddo's minds develop, they'll get it well they are good and ready. I could go on, but I'll step down now.

I was thinking about starting up a blog souly for our happenings with learning, but I'm not sure I could keep up on two blogs. Okay, so I pretty much know that to be a fact. So I've decided to post more about what we do with homeschooling on this blog. Granted everyday life is homeschooling, I just usually leave out what we are working on academically........ Ug, now I feel committed. I do have to say that I am very excited for school next year. I've started to get the curriculums I want!!! I gave Jacob and Michael the Introductory lesson for our History and they gobbled it up. Jacob keeps snatching my material to look at and he keeps asking when I'm going to be done with my planning.

I do want to say loudly that I have nothing against public schooling...at this time. I never wanted to homeschool my children. I cried pulling Jacob out of public school, but knew it was the right thing for him. Even though we NOW are living by great schools, I find that I want to home school. I love it. This is what I am supposed to be doing. Some day we may feel like it is time to go back to public education and I hope if that day ever comes that it is our choice and not because...we may just have to move to Canada.

Come to CANADA!!! :D Of course I vote for that last part. I'm glad you'll be blogging about your homeschooling adventures. That will be really great to see. After all I'm just starting my journey this year. A little lost.
